ADVANCE delivered a Kɔntri Os technology bootcamp in Monrovia, pairing foundational digital skills with supervised project work and realistic preparation for employment.

The challenge

Young participants arrived with uneven access to computers, connectivity and prior technical instruction. Familiarity with mobile applications did not necessarily translate into file management, collaborative working or the ability to explain a technical task. Employers also valued reliability and communication alongside software knowledge. The programme needed to create a supportive route into practical technology work without promising employment or compressing professional competence into a short course.

Our approach

ADVANCE assessed starting skills and organised learning around supported practice, from digital administration to introductory web and data tasks. Participants completed briefs that required planning, version control, documentation and peer review at an appropriate level. Mentors provided structured feedback, while career sessions covered portfolios, interviews and workplace expectations. Shared equipment arrangements and clear safeguarding procedures supported participation, with referral pathways for further learning beyond the bootcamp.

The result

Participants completed demonstrable project work and gained a clearer understanding of the habits expected in technology-enabled roles. Individual feedback identified strengths and further learning needs rather than assigning uniform claims of job readiness. Portfolios provided a basis for education and employment conversations, and the programme established referral routes for continued development. Delivery experience also clarified where foundational digital support remained necessary before more specialised technical training would be useful.
