Gambia Small Supplier Market Access Programme
- Banjul, The Gambia
- 2025
- DWA FOUNDATION
ADVANCE supported small suppliers in The Gambia to navigate formal purchasing requirements, strengthening quotations, delivery planning and buyer engagement without guaranteeing contracts.
The challenge
Small enterprises could provide relevant goods and services but often struggled to interpret formal buyer requirements. Incomplete quotations, unclear delivery terms and weak supporting records limited consideration before product quality was assessed. Buyers also needed realistic information about supplier capacity. The programme had to address these practical barriers without encouraging businesses to accept unsuitable orders, extend unaffordable credit or assume that registration alone would secure commercial opportunities.
Our approach
ADVANCE worked with suppliers on quotation structure, basic compliance records, costing and delivery commitments using realistic procurement scenarios. Buyer consultations clarified common evaluation requirements and avoidable documentation failures. Enterprise reviews examined capacity and cash implications before introducing suitable market opportunities. The programme also provided guidance on payment terms and escalation, with referrals for specialist registration or financial advice where a participant's needs exceeded the scope of practical business support.
The result
Participating suppliers developed more complete commercial documents and a clearer basis for assessing whether opportunities matched their capacity. Buyer engagement became better prepared, with product offers supported by delivery and payment terms. The programme established reusable procurement guidance and referral routes rather than treating introductions as completed sales. Economic inclusion was supported through practical participation tools while leaving purchasing decisions with buyers and commercial choices with each enterprise.
Outcomes
- Procurement-ready supplier documentation
- Capacity-aware opportunity assessment
- Better-prepared buyer engagement
