INNOVATE created a decision-focused reporting layer for a Gambian distributor, clarifying stock movement, customer purchasing patterns and the limitations of underlying data.
The challenge
Managers received sales totals but lacked a dependable way to interpret product availability, repeat purchasing and branch-level differences. Product names varied across records, returns were inconsistently classified and missing transaction dates distorted comparisons. The business wanted better planning without presenting unreliable data as precise forecasting. The mandate required a foundation of agreed definitions before dashboards could support useful conversations about replenishment, customer coverage or commercial performance.
Our approach
INNOVATE profiled source records, standardised product references and documented rules for sales, returns and inactive customers. A reporting model separated transactional measures from derived indicators and exposed completeness checks alongside business views. Dashboards focused on decisions about slow-moving stock, replenishment and account follow-up. Working sessions trained managers to investigate changes in context, including supply interruptions and recording gaps, rather than treating every chart movement as a market signal.
The result
The reporting layer gave managers a common vocabulary for discussing distribution performance and a visible account of data quality limitations. Commercial and stock teams could examine the same product and customer groupings, with exceptions traceable to source records. Reporting reviews became more focused on actionable questions and necessary data corrections. The business gained useful analytical discipline without relying on unsupported predictive claims or concealing uncertainty behind polished visualisations.
Outcomes
- Agreed commercial reporting definitions
- Actionable stock and customer views
- Visible data quality controls
